Pray for the Philippines.
(repost from 2009)

Right now, in the Philippines, 800,000 families are affected, 16 are dead, and several areas in Metro Manila flooded and under a state of calamity because of heavy rains. Some roads are now impassable, and people can’t go to different areas even if they wanted to. However, if you’re stuck where you are, you can still help. Things like raising awareness, gathering your old stuff for donations, and letting your social media circles know if there’s anyone in need or if there are any places that need relief operations can go a long way.
On Twitter, there are some official hashtags that may prove to be useful, whether you yourself are in need, you want to help those in need, or you just want to monitor what’s happening outside: #ReliefPH – for relief efforts, #RescuePH – for flood rescue effort, #FloodPH – for general flooding news and #PHalerts – for government advisories.
To those who are braving the weather today to aid in rescuing people, Google Person Finder, this list of evacuation centers, and RescuePH, a consolidated list of people who need urgent rescuing, etc, can help you start with your efforts.
If you want to donate directly to the Philippine Red Cross, you can do so by clicking here. Smart subscribers may send donations to Red Cross via SMS. Text RED < amount > to 4143.
For Globe Gcash users, text DONATE < amount > MPIN SLB and send to 2882 (e.g. DONATE 100 1234 SLB) You can donate the following denominations:
Globe: 5, 25, 100, 300, 500 or 1000
Smart: 10, 25, 50, 100, 300, 500 or 1000.
We could all be heroes in this time of need. Heroes aren’t only those who put their lives on the line to help in rescuing, but heroes can also include those who are helping, in their own capacity, to make a difference.

Criticizing the government, or pointing out who the insensitive people are will not bring any good to those who are suffering on their roofs, with no food to eat or clean water to drink. We all have to be positive. God won’t let us down. #PrayforthePhilippines
